YCH Architects designed the most recent Cabarrus County elementary school, an on-site replacement for a 70-year-old facility. This new two-story school, located on a steeply sloping site, sits just behind the existing school and utilizes the 32-acre property already owned by the school district. The new school’s design is a testament to innovation, intentionally incorporating high-performance learning environments. These environments, present in both classrooms and common areas, are enhanced by extensive color, graphics, and wayfinding. The building also boasts expansive natural daylighting, an energy-conserving building envelope, and energy-efficient HVAC systems, all contributing to its innovative and sustainable design.
The new school was designed to be flexible, compact, and efficient, allowing the team to replicate it for use on various sites and serveĀ as a prototypeĀ for future school projects.
