NASCAR’s 61,000 sq ft Research & Development Center began as an abandoned pre-engineered building shell. YCH Architects’ new design featured complete adaptive re-use of both the interior and exterior of the building. This facility is the first research and development center owned and operated by a sanctioning body of motorsports in the United States. The hallmark space within this facility is the Fabrication Shop. This shop contains state-of-the-art equipment and is where the “car of tomorrow” was designed, engineered, fabricated, and tested. This facility also houses a Template Shop, Machine Shop, Engine and Inertia Dynos, an Engineering Suite, and Corporate Offices as well as a public museum which houses various displays including a Prototype Display Room.
